Women in Biomedical Engineering (WBME) at the University of Texas at Austin is a dedicated student organization committed to fostering community and professional development among women pursuing careers in biomedical engineering. Based in Austin, TX, WBME provides comprehensive support through service, social, academic, and professional opportunities designed to enrich the engineering experience at the Cockrell School of Engineering.

The organization operates through a structured committee system that addresses multiple dimensions of student success. Members engage with six active committees: Academic Affairs, Engineering Activities, Marketing & Analytics, Publicity, Service, and the Society of First-Year Engineers. Each committee is led by experienced Directors who guide Members At Large in executing impactful events and advocacy initiatives that strengthen the engineering community.

WBME distinguishes itself through the WEP PAL program, which provides mentorship connections between undergraduate women, incoming freshmen, and graduate students already established in the program. This tiered mentoring approach creates meaningful relationships that span academic levels and facilitate knowledge sharing about navigating engineering education and career pathways.

The organization's leadership structure includes six Officers—President, Vice President of Executive Affairs, Vice President of Relations, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Membership, and Vice President of Operations—supported by specialized Chairs managing administrative, social, corporate, and merchandise functions. This comprehensive organizational framework ensures that WBME delivers consistent, high-quality programming and support to its members.

Serving the Austin engineering community since its inception, WBME remains committed to creating an inclusive environment where women in biomedical engineering can develop professionally, build lasting friendships, and contribute meaningfully to the field. The organization actively collaborates with other engineering societies within the Student Engineering Council framework, amplifying its impact across the broader engineering student population.
