About Girl Trek
GirlTrek is a transformative health justice organization based in Washington, DC that mobilizes Black women through organized walking teams and community advocacy. Far more than a walking group, GirlTrek operates as a comprehensive campaign designed to heal intergenerational trauma, combat systemic racism, and create lasting transformation in Black lives. The organization empowers women to organize walking teams while simultaneously mobilizing community members to support advocacy efforts and lead a Civil Rights-inspired health movement.
GirlTrek's approach integrates daily walking discipline with systemic change initiatives. Participants collectively organize to shift policy, change systems, and address the complex challenges facing their communities and daughters. The organization operates with a five-point health justice agenda grounded in the principles of radical self-care, generational healing, and community solidarity. By channeling the momentum of Black women walking in solidarity throughout Washington, DC and beyond, GirlTrek unleashes a mass movement that refuses to ask permission to save their own lives.
The organization's foundation rests on deep satisfaction, radical rest, and generational healing—recognizing that joy itself becomes an act of resistance. GirlTrek members reclaim the streets of their neighborhoods, heal their bodies, inspire their daughters, and honor the sacrifices of their foremothers. This movement divests from any systems requiring silence or sacrifice, instead building a sisterhood committed to health equity, policy transformation, and the liberation of Black women and girls.
