About Canadian Federation of University Women Ontario Council
Canadian Federation of University Women Ontario Council, based in Mississauga, ON, is a voluntary, self-funded, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing women's equality and rights through education, advocacy, and policy influence. Since its formation in 1978, the organization has grown to encompass 49 affiliated clubs across Ontario, creating a powerful network of educated women committed to meaningful change. The Council operates through three primary strategic pillars: Education, Action, and Advocacy. In the Education sphere, the organization provides scholarships, fundraising initiatives, speaker series, and workshops that promote lifelong learning through study and interest groups, while maintaining expert policy advisors. The Action component focuses on community engagement, including raising member club profiles, providing financial support to clubs, promoting club resolutions on key issues, and facilitating participation in public affairs. The Advocacy arm ensures representation to provincial authorities consistent with Ontario Council policy, assists clubs in amplifying their voices and concerns, and builds partnerships to expand influence and support. Governed by a 13-member Executive Board and affiliated with the national Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), the organization addresses critical issues including education, the status of women and girls, environment, human rights, peace, and justice. The Council's comprehensive approach enables women across Mississauga, ON and throughout Ontario to apply their knowledge and skills in leadership and decision-making roles while contributing to systemic improvements in public policy.
