About Canadian Federation of University Women Northumberland

The Canadian Federation of University Women-Northumberland (CFUW-N) is a dedicated advocacy and education organization serving the Cobourg, ON community and surrounding Northumberland County. Since its founding in 1991, CFUW-N has been committed to promoting education and advancing the rights of women and girls through a comprehensive range of programs and initiatives. The organization provides substantial financial support to female students pursuing higher education and apprenticeship training, awarding over $14,000 in scholarships and bursaries in 2024 alone. CFUW-N works collaboratively with six Northumberland County high schools, Fleming College, Trent University, the First Peoples House of Learning, and The Children's Foundation to identify and support women who will benefit from educational funding. Monthly meetings feature engaging speakers addressing diverse topics including health, the arts, current events, environmental issues, local history, women's rights, and education. These gatherings provide members with opportunities to stay informed about advocacy initiatives at the community, provincial, and national levels while fostering meaningful connections. Through numerous interest groups, members enjoy learning opportunities, social engagement, and mutual support within a safe and welcoming environment. CFUW-N is part of CFUW, a national non-partisan organization with over 100 clubs across Canada, providing access to extensive resources and supporting advocacy in education, equity, social justice, and healthy communities. Whether attending monthly meetings or participating in interest groups, members benefit from lifelong learning opportunities and the chance to contribute to meaningful change in Northumberland County.
