Canadian Federation of University Women Nanaimo

Canadian Federation of University Women Nanaimo is a voluntary, non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing women's equality and education through scholarships, advocacy, and community engagement. Based in Nanaimo, BC, CFUW Nanaimo has been actively serving the community since 1945, and is now celebrating 75 years of local action, advocacy, and education. As part of the largest affiliate of Graduate Women International with consultative status at the United Nations, the organization brings international perspective to local initiatives.

CFUW Nanaimo provides substantial financial support to women through its scholarship program, having distributed over $201,000 in scholarships, awards, and bursaries since inception. The organization educates and advocates on critical issues including the status and equality of women and girls, education, human rights, peace, justice, and environmental protection. Members benefit from a robust program of speaker series featuring diverse topics, hybrid meetings accommodating both in-person and virtual attendance, and numerous interest groups focused on discussion, learning, and community connection.

The organization offers multiple pathways for engagement, including monthly casual coffee gatherings, specialized interest groups, community outreach opportunities, and fundraising initiatives that support the scholarship program. CFUW Nanaimo meets regularly from September through May at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Hall in Nanaimo, providing accessible opportunities for women to connect, learn, and contribute to meaningful causes. Whether through attending speaker series, joining interest groups, or participating in community projects, members find friendship, personal growth, and the satisfaction of supporting educational advancement for women.
