Canadian Federation of University Women Kanata

Canadian Federation of University Women Kanata is a non-partisan, self-funded non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, advancing women's rights, and fostering active community engagement in Kanata, ON. As part of an international network with chapters across Canada since 1919, CFUW Kanata serves over 100 members committed to lifelong learning and social progress. The organization offers diverse programming and specialized interest groups that cater to a wide range of intellectual and social pursuits. Members participate in book clubs, bridge groups, guitar lessons, mah-jongg circles, genealogy research, history discussions, outdoor adventures, and cultural outings. Beyond recreational activities, CFUW Kanata actively advocates for women's equality, human rights, and environmental stewardship through organized advocacy initiatives and public affairs participation. The organization maintains a robust scholarship program through its Scholarship Trust, which raises funds through community events to support local high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education. Monthly general meetings from September through May feature speakers addressing contemporary issues, with all meetings held at Kanata Legion and January sessions conducted via Zoom. CFUW Kanata demonstrates strong community commitment through partnerships with local organizations including Chrysalis House, a women's shelter, and the Kanata Food Cupboard. The organization welcomes new members—no university degree is required—and invites non-member guests to attend monthly meetings. With over twenty active interest and service groups, CFUW Kanata provides women in the community with meaningful opportunities to develop skills, build networks, share knowledge, and strengthen both local and global connections through cooperation and friendship.
