About Canadian Federation of University Women Georgetown

The Canadian Federation of University Women Georgetown is an equality-seeking advocacy organization dedicated to advancing the human rights of women and girls throughout the Georgetown, ON community and beyond. As one of over 90 CFUW chapters across Canada, the Georgetown chapter delivers comprehensive programming and services designed to empower women and create meaningful social change. The organization hosts monthly meetings featuring informative speakers on educational, cultural, and social issues, with particular emphasis on the status of women and girls. CFUW Georgetown maintains active special interest and study groups covering a wide range of topics, providing members with opportunities for professional development, networking, and lifelong learning. The chapter administers annual scholarships and awards to members of the Halton Hills community, having distributed over $200,000 to local high school graduates pursuing post-secondary education through apprenticeship, college, or university programs. Beyond local initiatives, CFUW Georgetown engages in advocacy at all levels of government, ensuring that elected officials—including MPs, MNAs, MLAs, and MPPs—remain informed of CFUW policies and positions. The organization researches and presents resolutions for consideration at the national CFUW Annual General Meeting, contributing to policy development across the federation. Founded in 1971, the Georgetown chapter has established a strong track record of community involvement, from organizing book sales and leading International Women's Day marches to hosting all-candidates debates and collaborating with local institutions on critical issues affecting women and girls.
