About Boston University Women in Chemistry

Boston University Women in Chemistry (BUWIC) is a student-run organization dedicated to advancing women and underrepresented minorities in the sciences through comprehensive professional development and networking opportunities. Based in Boston, MA, BUWIC works closely with the Chemistry Department and the Graduate Women In Science and Engineering (GWISE) organization to provide targeted support for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars.

The organization offers a diverse range of programs designed to address the unique challenges faced by chemists at all career stages. Research seminars feature leading women in academia and industry presenting cutting-edge science to the broader Boston University community. Panel discussions and candid conversations bring together women scientists from various career levels who openly share their professional goals, decision-making processes, and career trajectories. These intimate luncheon events allow members to directly engage with accomplished professionals working in academia, government, journalism, industry, patent law, and the arts.

BUWIC provides essential educational outreach initiatives, with Boston University students leading chemistry lessons and tutoring at local high schools as part of Chemistry Day activities. The organization supports member development through resume and CV workshops, travel fellowships, and grant resources designed to facilitate career advancement.
